Superdrag returns original lineup to road, recording studio

Reunited alt-rockers Superdrag [ tickets ] will mount a brief headlining run this spring as work continues on the band's first new album with its original lineup in 10 years. The Tennessee natives, who have been on a self-imposed hiatus since 2003, kick off the run tonight (4/9) in Baltimore, and will play two more shows in April before heading to California for two-night stands in both West Hollywood (5/28-29) and San Francisco (6/1-2).The revitalized group hit the road last year for a short run of reunion shows featuring the original Superdrag lineup--singer John Davis, guitarist Brandon Fisher, bassist Tom Pappas and drummer Don Coffey Jr.--and afterwards headed back into the recording studio to work on a new studio album."Work continues on the first new music Brandon, Tom, Don and myself have composed and recorded together since 1998," Davis wrote on the band's website. "After sessions in Knoxville at Don's own Independent Recorders facility, and more work at Lake Fever Productions here in Nashville, we have emerged with 7 complete masters for the new album."The group, which formed in 1992 in Knoxville, TN, scored a minor MTV hit in 1996 with "Sucked Out," and then went through a pair of lineup changes before releasing its most recent studio effort, 2002's "Last Call for Vitriol.""It was inevitable," Davis told the New York Press alternative paper last fall of the band's reunion. "We always left the door open. We never made any fuss about disbanding. We never had a farewell tour, and had no idea that the last show we played would be our last."Davis has released two solo albums since the band went on hiatus, the most recent of which, "Arigato," was released last year.
